2025 walking holidays in Barbados

Barbados, meaning bearded-ones, derives its name from the bearded roots of towering native fig-trees. The flourishing emerald vegetation and diverse habitats provide immersive walking routes for nature lovers. You’ll follow exquisite coastlines trails, explore lucrative sugar plantations, and learn the gripping colonial history of the port.

Arriving in Bridgetown, you’ll immediately notice the impressive heritage architecture and strategic Garrison. Shaped over centuries of Afro-British influence, Bridgetown’s UNESCO listed style is unique; blocks of pastel-coloured frontages contrast to ornately flourished white verandas. The gilded opulence here reflects the provocative past of Barbados’ commerce.

Why visit Barbados?

On the streets, brightly costumed Calypso bands sound out steel drums and penny whistles. Cricket bats clack to roars of delight as sandy feet scramble with joyful spirit. The locals, known as Bajans, are legendary for their uplifting way of life and generous hospitality.

Delicious, freshly caught fish fries on open grills; the local delicacies, Mahi Mahi and flying fish are not to be missed. Rum runs deep in the veins of this Island, follow the process from crop to commodity and sample the finished product.

Marvel at the underwater wildlife as you ride a glass-bottomed boat with views of stunning coral reefs. Then, snorkel with Hawksbill, Leatherback, and Green turtles, honorary residents of Barbados. In fact, the turtle’s easy temperament is the quintessence of Barbadian life.

Our holiday walking grades

Leisurely

Grade 3

We still class this level as leisurely; walks are generally a little longer than level 2, with undulations but over a longer distance. Where sightseeing distances are longer, we take a full day with opportunities to stop, rest and refuel. Generally, itineraries involve easy countryside walking with plenty of breaks.
