Walking Holidays in Costa Rica

Nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, Costa Rica’s mineral-rich soils provide a luscious habitat to rare and exotic biodiversity. Tree-dwelling Iguanas, white-faced capuchins, splendid blue morpho butterfly, and mangrove wading crocodiles are just some of this rainforest’s star-studded residents. Exploring this ancient civilization’s diverse ecosystems, you’ll trek through emerald jungle, cloud-veiled mountains, volcanic lava fields, and cascading azure waterfalls. A fusion of prehistoric Mesoamerican and Andean culture, archaeological evidence places the first human settlers here between 700 and 10,000 BC. In fact, traditional hunter-gatherer tribes can still be found inhabiting small pockets of this unspoilt corner of the earth.

Why visit Costa Rica?

Costa Rica, meaning rich coast, is named after the land’s astonishing mineral fertility. Walking the slopes of the mighty Arenal, you’ll marvel at its incredible lava fields and flourishing vegetation. Volcanic activity gives shape to breathtaking features; bubbling mud pools, crater lakes, steam vents and sulphuric hot springs.

We’ll also walk to historic cacao plantations in Sarapiqui and follow the sacred transformation from fruit to chocolate. Cacao holds particular significance to Costa Rica’s indigenous culture as the trees are believed to be divine women transformed by the deity Sibú.

Trekking through flawless nature reserves, we’ll discover classic rainforest flora and stroll coconut dotted, white-sand beaches. Listen out for howler monkeys as well as spotting cheeky white-faced capuchins darting across the tree-tops. Our sharp-eyed guides will help you spot sloths, iguanas, toucans, exotic frogs, crocodiles, and scarlet macaws.

Refresh after the day’s hike with a warm dip in the Caribbean, followed by a spectacular cruise on Rio Celeste’s ethereal turquoise waters. Its luminous, sapphire blue colour is a phenomenon caused by refracted Aluminosilicate particles; nature’s own magic light show.

Crystal-clear waterfalls cascade a bridal veil of spray, contrasting to Rio Celeste’s shimmering cyan banks and surrounding emerald flora in breathtaking harmony.
