What does this mean?
What does this mean?
On this walking holiday you can expect full and half days of moderately paced walking. Full days involve up to 5 hours of walking whereas half days involve up to 3 hours. The highest point reached on this holiday is likely to be 559m at Ma On Shan. Ascents and descents can be up to 600m. The humidity and temperature can make the walks challenging but we will proceed at a slow pace and hopefully sea breezes will cool us. Our itinerary will allow for sightseeing so you can enjoy even more of Hong Kong!
Meticulously curated, guided walking holiday itineraries that delve into the culture, wildlife, cuisine, and rich history of the world.
Overview
Hong Kong welcomes with an iconic skyline, varied cuisine, and lush, protected nature where rare birds and colourful traditions thrive. Come explore the hills and outlying islands, where we walk through lush open countryside and along deserted coastal paths away from the crowds.
Underneath the neon lights, glass and steel of Hong Kong’s commercial persona is a cultural landscape where its Chinese roots and colonial connections become intertwined.
Hong Kong is a beguiling place to visit; a teeming metropolis with a harbour surrounded by skyscrapers, yet with the attraction of walking trails in the backdrop of the relatively remote and unspoiled New Territories. The Chinese metropolis is full of colour: outdoor markets, shopping precincts, streets awash with illuminated signs and shops filled with exotic goods and foods from mainland China. The harbour scenes are a myriad of ferries, sampans, junks and floating restaurants. A walk to the lofty heights of Victoria Peak overlooking all of this is a must!
Beyond the maze of streets and skyscrapers lies another world of unspoilt hilly countryside and countless islands where little has changed for centuries. Numerous ferries ply these outlying islands, havens of peace far from the crowds. We’ll wander across Lantau Island to visit Tai O, a little village that seems to come out of the Middle Ages and walk on car free Lamma Island. North of Kowloon towards the border with mainland China, we come to the New Territories, protected by National Country Park status and crossed by the MacLehose Trail. The colonial Kowloon-Canton Railway gives access to mainland China – ideal for a ‘free day’ adventure (a visa is required if this option is chosen).
Hong Kong is a superb holiday destination and delivers far more than may have been imagined or believed possible. Come and experience Hong Kong with us for a new perspective.

Local Transport Costs
In the holiday cost, we have included all local transport expenses related to the advertised activity programme for your convenience. If there are additional visits or excursions to enrich your experience, you can choose to participate and cover the costs locally. Depending on the itinerary, local transport may involve a mix of private hire coaches, taxis, local buses, and ferries.
Optional Excursions
At your destination, you may have the option to book various local excursions and activities through a local operator. It's important to note that we are not involved in these activities or excursions, and we do not operate, supervise, or control them in any way. Your contract will be directly with the local activity supplier, and we bear no responsibility for their actions or omissions.
Holiday Budgeting
As you plan your holiday budget, it's essential to account for expenses such as drinks, meals not covered in the holiday price, entrance fees not included, optional local excursions, and any souvenirs or additional services like laundry. For a rough estimate, budgeting around £10-£20 per person per day for lunches and drinks is a helpful guideline.

Hong Kong Dollar. There are numerous banks in Hong Kong with ATM facilities and using your debit or credit card is a good way of accessing money whilst in Hong Kong. The hotel also accepts most major credit cards. There is generally no limit on the amount of foreign currency that can be imported or exported. Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards are widely used in Hong Kong. |
Tipping
Although entirely at your own discretion, tipping is an important aspect of tourism and hospitality life and expectations are fairly high. In order to simplify tipping, we strongly recommend that you allow your leader to take care of making sure tips are given to hotel and restaurant staff and to local guides and drivers. This will be done using some funds provided by us together with, if you wish, a contribution from you, which he/she will collect during the holiday. A suggested amount given is £30 - £40 per person.
Tour Leaders
Your tour leader plays a crucial role in enhancing your holiday experience, and they share your passion for exploring the world on foot. In addition to being resourceful and organised they are also well-travelled and deeply enthusiastic about showing you new destinations. Your tour leader takes care of all the local administration, ensuring you can fully enjoy your holiday without worrying about the logistics. While leading group holidays, they always keep in mind that each group is composed of individuals. Each tour leader brings their unique style, talents, and professional background to the table. Rest assured, they are all trained, qualified, experienced, and dedicated to making your holiday as enjoyable, interesting, and inspiring as possible. Remember, your leader, while on holiday, is your first port of call for any issues, ensuring a smooth and worry-free experience for you.
Leader's Evening Briefing
Each evening, your tour leader will meet with you to review the programme for the next day. This is your chance to discuss details and ensure that the planned activities align with your walking ability. If you have any concerns about clothing or equipment, feel free to bring them up during this discussion. If, for any reason, you prefer not to participate in the organised group programme, please inform your leader. Your preferences are important, and your leader is there to make sure your experience aligns with your expectations.

Opting for filtered water from a reusable bottle with its built-in water filter, like the Water-to-go bottle available at www.watertogo.eu, is a sustainable alternative to single-use sealed water bottles.
