Walking Holidays in Jordan

At the crossroads of the trade routes from the Persian Gulf, Western Arabia, and the Red Sea, the Kingdom of Jordan has captivated travellers for many centuries. From its awe-inspiring ancient sites, its desert Crusader castles, its unspoilt natural wonders, to its rich biblical and cultural legacy, Jordan offers an exhilarating adventure to travellers looking for that little bit extra from their walking holiday experience.

One of the ‘New Seven Wonders of the World’, the ancient city of Petra is a complete city carved in a mountain of rose-red rock, and this site of extraordinary natural beauty really has to be seen to be believed. Madaba is home to the spectacular 6th century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land which covers the floor of the Greek Orthodox Church of St George with two million pieces of vivid local stone. And at Mount Nebo you can follow in the footsteps of Moses, for this is believed to be his burial site, from where he viewed the ‘Promised Land’. The magnificent landscape of the Wadi Rum is unmissable. Here, the elements have carved monolithic rockscapes that rise up from the desert floor to heights of 1,750 metres. And for the ultimate swimming treat, you can enjoy the curative properties of the Dead Sea – at 402 metres below sea level, it’s the lowest point on Earth.
