Winter Walking holidays and snowshoeing adventure breaks are ideal if you want an active escape in magnificent winter scenery that doesn't require any technical skill. Enjoy the magic of white mountainscapes against a backdrop of bright blue sky when winter walking as you break new ground or follow prepared and cleared paths. Alternatively, strap on a pair of snowshoes and walk off-piste into a peaceful white wilderness, out of bounds to most people. Snowshoes liberate you from prepared tracks and crowds, and you can be the first to cross virgin landscapes, unmarked except for the occasional fox or bird track. Instant silence. Just you, and an experienced local guide to show you the hidden corners of the mountains.
Walk through the Valais and use cable cars to gain height for some spectacular views of the Swiss Alps. Hike to a high hut in the Austrian Alps for a well-earned fondue or explore pine forests and glacial lakes against the rugged backdrop of Andorra. Snowshoe through the quiet valleys of the Spanish Pyrenees with a local guide or immerse yourself in the silence of the mountains as a local guide leads you on a pure wilderness experience in the Dolomites. All of our winter walking and snowshoeing holidays are graded for difficulty and the level of fitness required. None require special skill or clothing - on all our snowshoeing trips we provide the equipment that you'll be using - and they are led by our experienced leaders and local experts. All of which makes them ideal if you're looking for non-skiing winter holidays but still want to immerse yourself in magical surroundings with the chance to stay in handpicked hotels full of character
When British winters are chilly, damp and enveloped with a pervasive greyness in the alpine areas across Europe the countryside often looks at its best. The air may be cold but its dry; the sky takes on a deeper hue of azure against the snow-capped peaks. We will spend our week walking or snowshoeing under these (hopefully) azure skies
Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of snow shoeing a quiet valley in the Spanish Pyrenees.
Some skiers spend years trying to get off piste but never quite manage it. Sometimes, the answer is so simple: just ditch the skis, strap on a pair of snowshoes, and walk.
Austria really knows how to do winter - trees heavy with snow, picturesque alpine villages, log fires and glühwein create a magical atmosphere.
Enjoy glorious winter routes and unique culture in the south east corner of Europe.
