2025 walking holidays in Vietnam

With over 2,000 miles of tropical coastline framing the Indochina peninsula, a walking holiday in Vietnam offers an astonishing diversity of gorgeous terrain. Curious travellers will discover ancient jungle temples and historic Viet Cong dug-outs, explore the vibrant cities of Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, and float along turquoise waters in traditional bamboo basket boats.

Exploring Vietnam on foot is the perfect way to experience this nation’s sacred authenticity. Believed to be one of the oldest cultures in Southeast Asia, its traditions date back as far back as the Bronze Age. Everywhere you look, you’ll see locals wearing iconic Nón lá (leaf hats). Worn for over 3,000 years, legend has it the hats were crafted to honour the goddess protector of rice paddies.

Vietnam is abundant in rich sights; eye-catching paper lanterns decorate narrow honey-coloured streets and floating markets bob along crystal blue rivers spilling exotic goods from woven baskets. From the bright lights of Hanoi to the serenity of Hoi An, this stunning nation has something for everyone.

Why Choose to Visit Vietnam?

A highlight of your trip will be a visit to the UNESCO world heritage site of Halong Bay. A prime spot for many Hollywood film sets; you might recognise scenes from King Kong, Apocalypse Now, James Bond, and Peter Pan.

Aboard an iconic junk boat, we’ll get intimate views of the incredible cluster of limestone stacks that dot the coastline. The bay features over 1,600 of these solitary giants, standing triumphantly in a vivid emerald sea.

Vietnam is famed for its fresh, aromatic cuisine. Order a sizzling bowl of Cha Ca in Hanoi, so good they named a street after it! Or, try Hoi An’s signature dish of Cao Lau - crispy pork noodles made with water drawn from the local Ba Le well. You’ll learn to cook some traditional delicacies yourself with a cooking demonstration onboard our Bhaya boat cruise.

History lovers will relish the opportunity to see Vietnam’s strategic Cu Chi tunnels. This intricate network of underground passageways played a major role during the Vietnam War. Testimony to the Viet Cong’s resistance, these tunnels served as living quarters, supply routes, and even hospitals for thousands of guerilla fighters.

Awaiting discovery in the jungle heartland of the ancient Champa kingdom are the crumbling remains of their temple, My Son. This UNESCO heritage site has over 70 exquisitely carved stone structures dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva.

Experience what life in Vietnam is truly like with stories in the homes of welcoming locals. The focuses of Vietnamese culture are based on humanity (nhân nghĩa) and harmony (hòa) in which family and community values are highly regarded.

Leisurely

Grade 3

We still class this level as leisurely; walks are generally a little longer than level 2, with undulations but over a longer distance. Where sightseeing distances are longer, we take a full day with opportunities to stop, rest and refuel. Generally, itineraries involve easy countryside walking with plenty of breaks.
