Walking grade

Grade 4

Grade 5

Grade 6

1st Week - In Lanzarote we operate both Grade 4 & 6.

2nd Week - In Tenerife we only operate Grade 4 & 6.

3rd Week - In La Gomera we only operate Grade 5

Whilst on Lanzarote & Tenerife on a Grade 4 walk these can be full or half day walks at a moderate pace over hilly terrain and is likely to include an element of sightseeing as well. Half day walking will probably include about 3 hours of walking, with full days having around 5 hours. Expect ascents and descents of up to about 600m.

Our Grade 6 on Lanzarote & Tenerife walks are full days with appreciable amounts of ascent and descent with walks in some remote areas. Paths are mostly good, but there may be some steep and rough ground. Walks will last up to 6 hours and could involve as much as 750m of ascent and descent.

The wild landscapes of La Gomera make for interesting and varied walking. This is a Grade 5 moderate holiday which includes full day walks with moderate amounts of ascent and descents of 750m with some walks being very much at the top of the grade with longer descents. Our maximum altitude on this holiday is 1,500m, you might find yourself walking above the clouds. Given that the island is on a volcano the terrain is rugged and will require a head for heights. Paths are mostly good, but there will be some steep and rough ground.

Please see our Proposed Itinerary below for more walk examples.

  • Uncover dramatic ridges, rugged landscapes, and lush green valleys whilst exploring, La Gomera.

This holiday is a great combination of our our 7 night Lanzarote, 7 night Tenerife and 9 night La Gomera holidays.

Our first 7 nights will be in Lanzarote's volcanic wonderland, renowned for its natural richness and exclusive wildlife. Beyond the famed volcanic cones and sandy beaches, you'll find a haven for walkers, featuring palm groves, vineyards, white-washed villages, and captivating mountain vistas. This northernmost Canary Island, a UNESCO Biosphere reserve, safeguards over 40% of its terrain for exceptional biodiversity, showcasing endemic plants, volcanic tubes, salt marshes, and untouched beaches.

Starting from Haria, the Valley of a Thousand Palms, follow ancient trading paths to Teguise, the island's former capital, boasting panoramic views of La Graciosa and surrounding islets. Traverse the Timanfaya National Park, a mesmerising expanse of ancient lava fields encircled by towering volcanic cones. Wander through lush palm groves and vineyards, breathing in the crisp mountain air along the way.

Your base in Arrecife, the island's capital, provides convenient access to explore the diverse landscapes. With a rugged coastline, deserted sandy beaches, and welcoming rural villages, every walk concludes with a tranquil spot to savour the scenery. With temperatures rarely dipping below 20°C, the island offers an idyllic setting for you to unwind.

Our next stop is a quick hop to Tenerife, a captivating island of contrasts! Your base in San Cristobal de la Laguna offers exploration on foot, revealing the island's architectural gems, including the impressive cathedral. Venture beyond to the rugged Anaga Peninsula, where sheer ridges and green mountains boast breathtaking sea views.

A highlight awaits as you ascend Mount Teide Volcano by cable car, reaching the summit for unparalleled views at the Pico Viejo viewpoint. Afterward, a leisurely day unfolds on the lower slopes and the iconic Roques de Garcia.

Choose from our Grade 4 and Grade 6 walks, offering flexibility in your exploration.

Despite Tenerife's popularity, your journeys lead to lesser-known trails, unveiling the island's history shaped by Mount Teide's eruptions. The result is a rugged, volcanic landscape that adds a unique charm to your walks.

Our Final 9 nights will be spent discovering the wild landscapes, dramatic scenery, deserted beaches and sleepy mountain villages of La Gomera in the best possible way – on foot. A tranquil haven away from bustling tourist hubs, La Gomera, accessible only by ferry, unveils a pristine natural beauty that time seems to have forgotten.

As the ferry approaches from Los Cristianos in Tenerife, initial impressions may deceive, with the island appearing barren. However, hidden gems emerge swiftly, showcasing traditional Canarian white villages, majestic mountains, pine forests, and breathtaking cliffs. La Gomera boasts unique wildlife, adding to the island's allure and providing a genuine pleasure for explorers.

Valle Gran Rey serves as your island hub, a coastal retreat just an hour from San Sebastian, the capital. Nestled along the seafront, your hotel is conveniently close to the beach and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Garajonay National Park. Short bus rides from the hotel lead to magnificent walks, unveiling the true beauty of valleys and seascapes. Traverse paths alongside mountain streams, winding through fertile valleys teeming with lush vegetation and tropical mountain panoramas. Venture across volcanic mountains for unparalleled island views.

Your holiday begins and ends with a comfortable stay in Costa Adeje, Tenerife. Transfer days between islands incorporate well-planned ferry schedules, allowing time for additional walks and maximising hiking opportunities.

Please note That some of the walks may be a little more challenging if the weather is inclement.
