On walking holidays to Montenegro, you will discover a host of natural landscapes, remarkable wildlife, rich history, incredible vistas and unforgettable water sports. Explore magical Kotor on your guided group tour with Ramble Worldwide and discover this quaint, cultural and historic main town. Stroll down narrow streets, passing immersive architecture along the way; then, discover the impressive hiking trails in the old town of Stari Bar. This town is filled with ancient ruins to see, cobbled hills to hike and a diverse range of architectural styles dotted across the town, including gothic, renaissance and romanesque.
After rambling through Kotor, follow one of our expert guides to the neighbouring town of Bar, where you can embark on a boat ride, skimming over the glittering waters at Lake Skadar. Alternatively, venture to the exquisite cultural attraction of King Nikola’s Palace, enjoying both the scenery here and the historical artefacts found inside.
Montenegro offers excellent walking conditions from spring through autumn. The shoulder seasons (May-June and September-October) provide ideal temperatures for hiking, with warm days and cooler evenings. Summer can be hot, particularly for mountain hikes, though coastal walks remain pleasant with sea breezes.
Our Montenegro walking holidays cater to moderate fitness levels. The hike up Kavac Mountain involves steady climbing but rewards you with spectacular views. Coastal walks and town explorations are generally easier. We have different walking grades for all our walking holidays so you can choose activities that match your fitness level.
Essential items include sturdy walking boots with good grip, lightweight layers, sun protection, and a small daypack. As this is a cruise-based holiday, you'll also need smart-casual evening wear for onboard dining. We provide a detailed packing list with your booking confirmation.
Yes, Montenegro is a safe destination for walking holidays. The country has low crime rates and the tourist areas we visit, particularly around the Bay of Kotor, are well-established with good infrastructure. Our experienced guides ensure your safety on all walks, and the cruise-based format provides additional security with your accommodation travelling with you. As with any holiday, we recommend travel insurance and checking current UK Foreign Office advice before departure.
Montenegro uses the Euro (€), despite not being an EU member. Most establishments in tourist areas accept credit and debit cards, but it's advisable to carry some cash for smaller purchases and local cafés. ATMs are readily available in Kotor and other ports we visit. There's no need to exchange currency if you're already carrying Euros from other European destinations.
