The first half of the holiday is at Grade 4 on Jersey, progressing to walks on Guernsey at Grade 5. Walking on both islands include full day walks at a moderate pace, with a mixture of inland and coastal walks. Both islands are vastly different in terms of the scenery and the walks we provide.
In Jersey, the guided walks will vary between inland and coastal walking. The inland walks are mostly on quiet roads and easy paths. Some of the coastal walks involve many short ascents and descents. However the amazing views make it worthwhile. Walks will last up to 5 hours and could involve as much as 450m of cumulative ascent and descent, though the highest point reached on any walk is only around 100m. Daily mileages will be between 6½ miles and 8½ miles.
The first walk in Guernsey is the easiest being a gentle coastal walk followed by more challenging walks in the more rugged south of the island as the week progresses. The highest point we reach is only some 100m, but there are lots of ups and downs. On some walks there will be opportunities to explore coastal fortifications and a pre-historic burial site. The walks have lovely scenery and you will be able to explore the island’s defences. Some walks include some steep ascents and descents, mostly on steps. Walks will last up to 6 hours and could involve as much as 660m of cumulative ascent and descent and daily mileage between 6 and 10 miles.
See the Itinerary section for more information on the walks.
Thoughtfully designed, meticulously planned, carefully graded, and expertly guided walking tours and hiking holidays along well-loved and off-the-beaten-track footpaths.
Overview
Your holiday begins in Jersey; the largest of the Channel Islands and great for a week’s island walking. Beautiful scenery and fascinating small towns and villages, gardens and historic monuments. Rich in flowers and wildlife and almost completely unspoiled.
Explore the island’s network of footpaths and quiet country lanes and use local transport to visit Jersey’s museums, megalithic monuments, fortifications and tropical gardens. Reminders of the island’s history await discovery. You’re conscious of the blue Channel seas never far away; the island’s beaches, coves, rugged rock formations and spectacular heather clad cliffs are a delight to wander around.
Enjoy the second half of the holiday on the island of Guernsey. We explore the dramatic coast and picturesque interior of Guernsey and another island of the Bailiwick. We walk some of the best stretches of the coast, with cliff-top paths and fine views out to sea.
Along the coast are many signs of Guernsey’s history, from the WW2 defences built by the German occupiers to fortifications against Napoleon; right back to Megalithic tombs from 3000-2000BC. There are also artistic sites, such as Renoir’s Viewpoint. Inland, Guernsey is criss-crossed with Green Lanes through picturesque and varied countryside.
Sark is a short ferry ride away, where ’traffic’ consists of tractors, horses and bicycles just three miles by one and a half, we’ll also get the chance to sample the best this wonderful island has to offer.

Cliff top paths and picturesque countryside on an island full of history, whilst enjoying the charming blend of French and English influences.
Jersey is compact; just nine miles by five miles, it's the largest of the Channel Islands and great for a holiday of island walking. Discover the beautiful scenery and fascinating small towns and villages, gardens and historic monuments.
Enjoy the stunning scenery and heritage sites of Guernsey, along with two day trips to Sark and Herm. You’ll have the chance to visit public and private gardens, admire wildflowers lining cliffside paths and discover each of the islands’ natural beauty.
The warm waters of the Gulf Stream ensure the Scilly Islands have an exceptionally mild climate and their relative remoteness has an Englishness of a bygone age in an unspoilt sub-tropical paradise.

This walk takes you to the North Coast where you will take a stroll along the cliffs at the north of the Island from Greve de Lecq. There will be time to fit in a coffee stop at the Priory Inn, then continue the undulating coastal path.

Today, take the inland route and show you some of the real countryside and perhaps some Jersey cows! A very short bus journey to just beside the Jersey War Tunnels where you will take a visit in the morning. We include the entrance fee in the holiday price. After the visit to the war tunnels, take a walk past some of the old “Mills’ and then walk along a pleasant woodland path where you will approach the village of St Peter for a drink stop.
Then head west towards the west coast and the view of the biggest bay on the island will appear - there will be spectacular views and another chance to see the lighthouse at Corbiere from a different view. Then head to the bottom of the dam and walk around the reservoir before heading inland and strolling the quiet lanes. Finish the walk at St Ouen's at a café where we can stop for refreshments before taking the service bus back to St Helier. This is a walk that gives a fantastic insight into the Jersey Countryside.

Again there may be opportunities to see seals swimming offshore.
As we work our way around the westerly point, you will get the opportunity to view restored armaments from the second world war. Drop down into St Ouen’s Bay with its amazing beach and subject to the tide and gently stroll along to our end point at Jersey Pearl - which is worthy of a visit while we wait for transport back to town.

On the first full day in Guernsey, you will walk on the north coast from Le Dehus to Grandes Rocques taking in coastal fortifications, seascapes, rock formations and pre-historic tombs along the way. This is a good walk for the first day of your holiday as it is an easy, flat coastal walk, in contrast with the two walks in the more rugged south of the island.
After visiting a Dolmen tomb, you will see a quarry that has been turned into Beaucette marina (a hidden oasis of tranquillity). On the north shore, you will visit pre-Napoleonic sites and some 1940s fortifications.
The shoreline today is very varied from sandy beaches to rocky promontories.

Water To Go
Opting for filtered water from a reusable bottle with its built-in water filter, like the Water-to-go bottle available at www.watertogo.eu, is a sustainable alternative to single-use sealed water bottles. Simply refill it from any water source and contribute to saving the environment from disposable plastic bottles.
Exciting news: Water-to-go has introduced two new bottles to their collection. The Active bottle is designed to fit bike water bottle holders, and the Sugarcane bottle is an even more planet-friendly option. Crafted from fibrous cane, a by-product of liquid extraction, it undergoes a process to create plant-based plastic. Explore the details on the Water-to-Go website for this innovative new range.
As a token of appreciation for your commitment to the environment, we've secured an exclusive 15% discount with Water-to-Go for you. Visit www.watertogo.eu and use the code RWH17 during your order.
Note: If you're booked on a long-haul holiday, you'll receive a complimentary Water to Go bottle, sent to your home address 2 or 3 weeks before your holiday. Thank you for being a part of our sustainable journey!

The UK National Health Service does not operate in the Channel Islands, with most medical practitioners in private practice and patients being required to pay for treatment and any use of the ambulance service. Although a reciprocal medical agreement exists between Jersey and Guernsey and the UK mainland covering immediate and necessary treatment of conditions which arise during your stay, travel insurance with medical cover is essential for this holiday.
It’s a condition of booking that you obtain adequate travel insurance, from a reputable provider, to undertake the holiday, including UK trips chiefly due to the cancellation element of cover.
The policy must cover the period from the date of booking to the last day of your trip and should include, as a minimum, cover for: medical expenses (including the consequences of a Covid positive test result), mountain rescue including helicopter rescue, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment and shall not have exclusion clauses limiting cover for the activities you will partake in on your trip, including altitudes reached in the holiday arrangement. It is your responsibility to check that your policy is adequate for the nature and destination of the holiday booked.
Once you have obtained your travel insurance, please provide us with the name of your travel insurer, the policy number and the insurer’s 24 hour emergency assistance number.
In the event that you fail to obtain suitable Travel Insurance we shall not be liable for any costs incurred or claims made against us due to your failure to comply with this term.

No refunds will be made should you be excluded from the walking programme through being uninsured or you being unable to demonstrate that you are insured.
Our house broker MPI should be considered for whom we are an affiliate and contact information is on our website and will be referred to in your booking confirmation.
If you are travelling to an EU country or Switzerland please also ensure that you have either an existing valid EU EHIC card (European Health Insurance Card) or a valid UK GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card).
