This is a Grade 4 moderate  holiday which includes  walks with plenty of breaks with an element of sightseeing, There are many outstanding walks through beautiful scenery on the holiday. It is generally the case that the pace of walking will be relaxed as at every turn there is an amazing geological feature to be marvelled at. The walks are often short with a few different trails be taken in one day.  The maximum altitude that we reach on this holiday is 8017 ft/2444m at Sunrise Point in Bryce Canyon. 

This is a Sightseeing Grade 4 holiday. It combines sightseeing around outstanding pre Hispanic sites of which Machu Picchu is the most celebrated example, and walking in the Peruvian Andes. This walking will generally be on good paths with plenty of stops so our local guides can bring to life the significance of what we are seeing. There are plenty of opportunities for walking through beautiful scenery. The walks will be at high altitude, for instance the Taquille walk starts on the shores of Lake Titicaca at about 3800m. The walks will be at a slow pace to take account of the altitude and will typically last a maximum of 3hrs. Paths are generally good underfoot. However they are sometimes stony and steep for short sections so walking poles can be useful.

Usually, your walk will take up the whole day at a moderate pace. Terrain will often be hilly and paths generally good. Note that on holidays in mountainous areas, expect some rougher paths. An average walk length is 6 miles but expect this to vary from as little as 3 miles on a sightseeing day and up to 10 miles on a full day dependant on the amount of ascent and decent required.

This is a Grade 5 holiday. It combines walking in the Patagonian Andes with a little sightseeing in Buenos Aires and Santiago, two iconic capital cities. There are plenty of opportunities for walking through beautiful scenery. The walking in all of our Patagonian centres is not particularly high altitude. 

The highest point we reach on the holiday will likely be 1200m at Pliego Tumbado walking from El Chalten. Paths are generally good underfoot. However they are sometimes stony and steep for short sections so walking poles can be useful.

This is a Grade 4 holiday which mixes active sightseeing and nature watching with countryside walks. The climate is warm and humid so we will always walk at a gentle pace. Walks are accompanied by our RWH Travel tour guide and our Costa Rican national guide so there is some flexibility in arrangements. A laid back walking holiday would be the only natural selection for Barbados, where taking time in the day to see the sights and enjoy a local rum punch is as important as putting one foot in front of the other. 

Our Grade 3 suits this country perfectly with beach side walks, town exploration and garden visits mean a couple of hours walking and a lovely balance of time to relax and explore further in your own time each afternoon. After all this is the Caribbean! 

Walks average 2 – 4hrs with very minimal ascent/descent. The maximum altitude we reach on this holiday is 200m.

Some of the walking is done on well prepared trails and paths that are clearly marked, however they can be rough and stony under foot. As this is a volcanic island there are many ascents and descents involved in the walks. Distances can vary from approximately 3 miles to 7 miles but it is the nature of the terrain that determines the grading. You can experience high humidity in the Caribbean, and this can also make some of the walks feel at the very top of the grade. Some days may include a beach visit in the afternoon giving time for a relaxing swim before returning to our hotel. The maximum altitude we reach on this holiday is 800m at the top of Gros Piton our toughest walk and very much at the top of the grade. If is also worth nothing that whilst we are in the rainforest walks can be muddy and slippery under foot with tree roots to navigate as well.
