Mahaba (welcome). I’m Bill Kenney and I hope to welcome you to Oman, a country that is truly different. Closed to outsiders until 1970, Oman offers tranquility, majestic scenery with mountains to 10,000 feet, beautiful beaches, and the Wahiba Sands with red dunes up to 300 feet high. The diversity is enormous; we start in Dubai with its ultra modern architecture, then to Buraimi Oasis with the camel market, forts and museums. We drive on to Nizwa the former capital with its 300 year old fort. We will walk in the mountains and up wadis visiting atmospheric villages unchanged for centuries.
We then visit the Wahiba Sands where you can sleep out under the stars. Then it’s onwards to the eastern tip of Arabia where we hope to see the giant turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs at night.
Finally we head to Muscat with impressive mosques and palaces and an afternoon dhow cruise to round off the Oman experience. The traditional culture and heritage remains strong in the country and people wear the customary clothing.
I lived and worked in Oman and Abu Dhabi (then part of Trucial Oman later renamed UAE), and I fully integrated with the local population. I have a deep knowledge of the countries, people, tribes, customs, history and language, plus a whole host of unique anecdotes. I would be delighted to share my love of the countries with you so why don’t you join me?
