The Buttermere Lake Circuit is a popular 4.5-mile walk that offers stunning lake views and an easy-to-moderate path suitable for all skill levels. Highlights include the Buttermere Pines, Scale Force waterfall, and picturesque spots like Peggy's Bridge.

Haystacks Hike

For a more challenging hike, head to Haystacks, one of Alfred Wainwright’s favourite fells. This 6-mile round trip provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Lake District. Starting from Gatesgarth Farm and taking you up through rugged terrain, past tarns, and eventually to the summit, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Buttermere and the surrounding fells. The route is a bit challenging, with some steep sections, but the views are well worth the effort.

Red Pike and High Stile

Ambitious hikers can tackle the Red Pike and High Stile walk, a strenuous but rewarding route that offers dramatic landscapes and spectacular vistas over Buttermere and Ennerdale. The 7-mile route involves steep ascents and descents, so is best suited for experienced hikers.

A shorter, yet equally rewarding hike of 3-miles, Rannerdale Knotts offers sweeping views of Buttermere, Crummock Water, and the surrounding fells.
