Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of snow shoeing a quiet valley in the Spanish Pyrenees.
What does this mean?
Overview
The Aigues Tortes National Park lies towards the middle of the Pyrenean range on the Spanish side rising to the French border to the north. It encompasses beautiful diverse scenery with mountain peaks reaching to 3017m at Besiberri. The Catalan name of the park translates into English as ‘winding streams’ which is apt indeed.
To explore winter snow covered valleys, you stay at the pretty town of Boi in the Val de Boi. The valley is particularly renowned for its Romanesque churches, dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries and little changed since those times. You will visit some on the walks. This particular feature of the walks is something the area is justifiably famous for. The remote nature of the valleys meant that the religious conflict that affected Europe in the Middle Ages passed by unnoticed. The same unspoiled peace and tranquillity allows the superb walking at any time of year. However, the valleys surely look at their very best under a blanket of snow.
You have a variety of walks to discover, either walking from the hotel or talking taxis further into the valley and explore further afield. Your local guide will arrange all the transport to make sure everything runs smoothly.
The region offers some of the darkest skies in Europe allowing you to enjoy superb star gazing. Make sure you get outside one clear night ideally walking away from street lights.
As with all winter activities snow cannot be guaranteed. However, the walks are equally spectacular on snowshoes or walking boots. It is important to note that like all winter activities there is an element of weather dependence. Please take this itinerary as a guide to what walks we might do. The day to day itinerary will be chosen to make the best of the conditions.

Austria really knows how to do winter - trees heavy with snow, picturesque alpine villages, log fires and glühwein create a magical atmosphere.
Some skiers spend years trying to get off piste but never quite manage it. Sometimes, the answer is so simple: just ditch the skis, strap on a pair of snowshoes, and walk.
